Valentine’s Day is an exciting time of the year. However for the 54% of women spending time alone it is often a dreadful day. We have grown up imagining and dreaming about someone sweeping us off our feet. As older women, at some point, we have been loved, shown love, and imagined a love that would last a lifetime. If we are honest with ourselves, we already have our love story planned, just waiting on the missing person and maybe if you are in your 20’s, you know the person you want to be with, but the timing isn’t right, someone is stubborn, or there is uncertainty.
Whatever your situationship is today, FORGET ABOUT IT. I’m sharing seven ways to love yourself because you can’t love anyone else until you do. Let’s normalize loving ourselves because self love is REAL LOVE.

7 Ways to Love yourself this Valentine’s Day
- Breakfast in Bed
I love the idea of breakfast in bed because it feels so comforting and luxurious. Make sure to wear the best pajamas you can find and bring breakfast to the bedroom. Don’t overthink the idea. Turn on the tv, listen to some music, or talk to your friend who is also enjoying his/her in home room service.

2. Journal
Journaling is a great way to reflect on your thoughts and think through situations. I move quickly and even make rash decisions. I have found that journaling allows me to quiet my mind and effectively think through moves I plan to make.
3. Spa Day
Treat yourself to a Spa, which would be my favorite way to feel pampered. The benefits of a Spa day can be rewarding for your body and your mind. The massage will help your blood flow and promote an overall experience you won’t regret. Everything about the spa from the moment you walk in will allow you destress and disconnect.
*Tip -to fully enjoy DON’T reflect on that ex.
4. Buy Flowers
Sometimes we want someone to buy us flowers, but do you really like flowers? If you’re buying flowers, purchase them the night before and set them up in a vase. You will wake up to beautiful flowers and whatever else you choose to buy. Last year I purchased balloons, flowers, chocolates, and later purchased a heart-shaped pizza. Now I buy flowers weekly; I didn’t know how much I enjoyed having fresh flowers around.

5. Cook Your favorite meal
As a self-proclaimed food connoisseur, I think treating yourself to your favorite meal is the ultimate self-love. I believe food is an experience with every bite. Plan your favorite meal and something sweet to be enjoyed with a glass of your favorite pour.
6. Stay offline
Sometimes seeing what others are doing will make you not enjoy what you are doing. Be entirely in your lane, and enjoy the time you have planned for yourself. Gifts, fancy restaurants, pictures, and lavish things are excellent to experience, but you can’t buy quality time.
7. Do something crafty
As a fellow creative, I had to recommend being creative. Use this time to create or make something new. Finish the picture you wanted to draw, try a new recipe, or put together a vision board. Projects can be a great form of self-awareness and expression.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you are only happy. In this season of your life, enjoy the singleness, freedom, less responsibility, and alone time you have because it’s rare and heavily desired. Happy Valentine’s Day.
